Curtiss-Wright Co-op Projects and Designs

Mechanical designs and rapid prototyping at Curtiss-Wright

What?

  • Throughout my term at Curtiss-Wright, I rapid designed, manufactured, and utilized a variety of 3D printed fixtures for camera and helicopter components

  • Due to security clearance, certain key designs cannot be shared; however, here are the examples which can be provided

How?

  • Designed fixtures in CREO with printing capabilities, assembly, and hardware in mind

  • Common turnaround time of less than 2 days to maximize efficiency of printers

  • Printed fixtures with PLA and PETG for supports to maintain print quality

Results

  • Utilized 3D printed fixtures in order to verify camera properties, improve consistency between electromechanical testing procedures, and assist designs for landing components

  • Accelerated schedule for many tests by 3-5 days due to overnight rapid printing, and commonly reduced cost by over 90%
