TT Motor Dynamometer

I constructed a dynamometer out of TETRIX to measure the speed and torque characteristics of a TT motor
Dyno

What?

  • I needed to design and build a dynamometer out of limited TETRIX parts to measure the speed and torque characteristics of a provided TT motor

Dyno 1

How?

  • By leveraging Excel functions to calculate the elastic’s spring constant to use in Newton’s second law calculations, we were able to get the torque values of the motor

  • We also performed an analysis on the slow-motion video involving elastic bands and a hanging mass which change the frictional load applied to the TT motor

Labelled Dyno

Results

  • Concluded our motor’s torque and speed in a report to be within 10% of manufacturer specifications based on performance tests

  • Learned significantly about basic dynamics and calculations inside Excel

  • Maximized limited resources to build a successful dynamometer
